Motivating Monday -The Good Road

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

As a parent I genuinely hope that I’m passing on the right kind of lessons to my children.  Sometimes, however, they end up passing on a valuable lesson to me.

This weekend my daughter found one of my journals sitting on the table, which happened to have Jeremiah 29:11 etched onto the leather cover.  She asked me what it said, and I was able to explain the verse to her and why it was important to me… because it reminds us that God has a good plan for our lives, and has promised to make us prosper and not to harm us.

Later that evening I was feeling worn out and stressed, and didn’t really feel like we had time to do a family devotion.  Nevertheless, I grabbed the family devotion book anyway and opened up to our reading for the day.  My daughter gasped when I read the opening verse… it was Jeremiah 29:11.

“Dad!” she exclaimed.  “That’s the verse we read this morning.  I think God is trying to teach us something!”

My eyes filled with tears, as I agreed.  I know God was teaching us something.  He was reminding us both that no matter how difficult our circumstances may seem, His plan for us is good and His desire is for us to prosper.  He has put us on a good road… we just need to take time to enjoy the scenery.
