Today’s churches are having a find time holding onto their worship leaders, and at times it seems that every song rubs someone the wrong way. Why is this? Kenny Lamm, the Worship Consultant for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, has this to say about the situation: […]

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before. An admitted Trekkie, I went into official mourning last week as my wife and I watched the concluding […]

The painting above, entitled Aaron and Hur Help Hold Moses’ Arms, was created by Karl Wagner and can be found at http://www.fineartamerica.com. This painting captures the moment recorded in Exodus 17:8-14, where the Israelites prevailed in their war against the Amalekires only while Moses held up his arms in intercessory prayer. As you can […]

It was Friday night. I was wrapping up my last class of the day, anxious to do something fun with my evening. That’s when I got a call from our local police dispatcher. “Pastor, there’s been a death, and the wife of the deceased is not in her right mind. She’s asking for the Baptist […]

As we prepare to ring in the New Year this weekend, many of us will choose to be “two-faced.” No, I’m not talking about doing something hypocritical. The dawn of a new year typically causes us to reflect on our past even as we dream about the future. This phenomenon is why Janus (the Roman […]

This week I will join throngs of Star Wars fans in heading to the theater and cheering as Star Wars: The Force Awakens fills the silver screen. It will be a moment long awaited – to see our favorite characters return and to finally know what became of them. Of course, I find myself reflecting […]

“May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you…may He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose… Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” – Psalm 20:1, […]

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not […]

Well, I’ve dropped out of the wonderful world of blogging for a while…I suppose that moving across state lines, packing and unpacking all of your worldly goods, and beginning a new ministry will do that! But we’ve now settled in the beautiful desert mountains of New Mexico, where the people are friendly, the sun is bright and hot, and salsa only comes in “spicy” and “spiciest!”
It really has been a wonderful transition, and our new church family has welcomed us with open arms. At our Pastor’s Welcome Potluck, I became accustomed to having someone flag me down from across the room, calling “Pastor John…Pastor John!”
Pastor. Shepherd. What an honor, what a responsibility, and what a joy. I used to wonder what sort of work the Lord would call me to do, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with His choice.
I also take great comfort in the fact that Jesus, the Good Shepherd, goes before me and walks beside me in my every endeavor. Each of us has been called to shepherd others in some capacity, and as long as we follow His lead, all will be well.
Blessings to you, my fellow shepherds!

“You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit.” – John 15:16 Yesterday was an exciting day for my wife and I, as our church held a special Ordination Service in our honor and officially ordained me to the Gospel Ministry! As I […]
