Monday Meditation – “Jesus Is Better”

We had an awesome worship service yesterday morning – the kind where God just shows up and makes His presence known. Our youth recently came back from Summer Camp, so yesterday we had a Youth Service just for them. We baptized six students who gave their lives to Jesus at camp, and there were many more testimonies from students who had made major life commitments. It just doesn’t get much more exciting than that!

In preparation for the day, I had asked a coworker for ideas on contemporary songs we could play that the young people might really enjoy. Without hesitation, he said, “Jesus Is Better.” When I looked it up, I found this modern worship song by Austin Stone. Not only is it catchy, but this song really “packs a punch,” and delivers a powerful (and much needed) message!

We sang this toward the end of the service, and I was just praying that the entire room wouldn’t just sit in dead silence since this was so very new and no one had heard it before. But to my surprise, the congregation sang full and strong! Not only that, but our youth minister stepped up to deliver his message for the morning, and asked us all this question:

Is Jesus more important to you than any other thing?

I had chills as he said this. Do I think it’s a coincidence that the song my coworker mentioned to me happened to fit perfectly with the message God had for us in yesterday’s service? Absolutely not. I think this is a perfect example of how God uses the entire Body of Christ to accomplish His purposes.

It was a powerful service, and it’s a powerful thought for you and me. How would we answer this question?
