“Your talent is God’s gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God.” – Leo Buscaglia
Shakespeare wrote that “all the world’s a stage,” and each one of us truly has a unique role to play. Flip through the pages of Scripture and you’ll find overwhelming references to the fact that you are unique, that you were blessed with individualized gifts, and that you have a specific, God-given purpose. No one else can accomplish what you were designed to do – at least not in the same way!
Just look at a few Scripture references that point to this:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” – I Peter 4:10
Do you want to discover your purpose in life? Do you long to be more effective at the work you’ve been given to do? Then open up the suitcase of your heart and see what God has packed into you! What dreams, desires, gifts, and talents has He carefully built into the fabric of your being? These are not there by accident – they are there by design.
Are you having trouble pinpointing your Unique Talent? Here are some helpful guidelines:
1). Ask the Designer: The first step would be to pray. If you want to understand an artistic design, wouldn’t it make sense to ask the Designer?
2). Ask Yourself: Spend some time reflecting on all God has brought you through and what gifts and talents you’ve developed along the way. What do you love to do most? What are you especially good at? Take time to write this down!
3) Ask Those Around You: Others have the uncanny ability to see yourself more clearly than you could ever hope to. Ask those God has placed into your life what they perceive your unique gifts to be. Who knows? You might just realize that you’re incredibly gifted in ways you didn’t even realize!
Below is a video on “3 Steps to Finding Your Unique Talent” – something I put together with a few of my co-workers for a business project. But even as we did this for business purposes, I couldn’t help but notice the spiritual truth ringing through loud and clear. God has gifted each of us in a marvelously unique and powerful way. Now, the question is…
How will you use your Unique Talent and God-Given Gifts to change the world?
A good reminder. We all have unique gifts and by using them we perfect them in His time. James 1:17 Is a wonderful verse.

AND he still hones our gifts during times when life is not so kind to us.

And we all have a “total package” that is totally unique! I think we get into trouble when we start wishing for someone else’s gifts instead of using our own!

Thank you for that, Lynn! Work doesn’t have to be a drudgery. When we define our unique loves and talents, “work” can be a lot of fun!
