Summer Selections
For me, summer is all about escape. Most of us will be fortunate to travel a little this summer, but we may only get away for a few days or a week at the most. Of course, our entire summer can become an exotic getaway… if we have the right book in our hands.
Here are a couple of titles that I used to kick off my summer reading. Take a glance – you may want to add one of these bestsellers to your reading list!
Camino Island by John Grisham
I love Grisham’s straightforward style which is absolutely dripping with dry sarcasm, and this recent release does not disappoint. It follows the story of an everyday bookseller who is enlisted by the FBI to investigate a ring of professional thieves. The book kicks off with a bang and never really slows down. My favorite feature, however, is the fact that each chapter is only a page or two – making it entirely possible to sneak a chapter in during a five-minute work break. Whether you’re a longtime Grisham fan or are trying his legal thrillers for the first time, this is the perfect choice for light summer reading.
Thrawn by Timothy Zahn
Summer reading really is about getting away, and rather than simply leave the country, why not leave your entire galaxy? Science Fiction is the epitome of escapist literature, and I usually fit one or two science fiction titles into my summer reading fare. Those who have read Zahn’s Heir to the Empire series will be familiar with Grand Admiral Thrawn – a blue-skinned alien who rises to power in an Empire that detests aliens through his remarkable knowledge of military tactics and through the sheer force of his will. This new release outlines the history of where Thrawn came from and how exactly he came to achieve such a high military rank despite the overwhelming obstacles that were stacked against him. If you liked Thrawn before, you will adore him now. Join him on a thrilling adventure through the twisted politics of Coruscant and the wild reaches of space, and marvel at his resolve and tactical genius. Sure, he’s one of the bad guys, but this is one character who gives Darth Vader a run for his money. You will simply love to hate him!

Thanks for the recommendations! I’m currently reading a book about women in the Klondike during the Gold Rush, then a book on the film Casablanca, which is an unexpected gift from my favourite husband.
