We all know that taking time for rest and relaxation is important, but how can we truly rest without feeling guilty about it?
If you’re like me, your days are packed from sun up to sun down with a million little tasks. By the time your head hits the pillow you’re exhausted, but your mind won’t stop nagging you about all the things on your list you never got to. Unplugging for a while to recharge helps tremendously, but it’s hard not to feel guilty or worry that you might be neglecting something.
If this describes you, then you need to take a look at Genesis 2:2… and I mean really take a look at it:
“By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work.” – Genesis 2:2
If the God of the universe – the One who holds the galaxies in His hands and bears responsibility for all living things – could take a day off, I think the world might be able to survive without you for a day! And God didn’t just put off a few things… He rested from all His work. That’s right, folks… God Himself went on vacation!
Take time to rest this week… and I mean really rest. And don’t feel guilty about it! You’ll come back with renewed energy and a restored spirit, and will end up doing a far better job than you did before. Not only that, but you will preserve your health and ensure that you’ll be able to endure in your line of work for the long haul. When you think about it, it’s actually more irresponsible not to relax, because you’re not caring for the mind or the body God blessed you with.
Do you want to be successful? Then take a page out of God’s book, take just a day – perhaps even just a few precious moments – and rest from all your work.
