As I was attempting to sleep in on Saturday morning, my blissful slumber was interrupted by the jarring sound of the refrigerator door slamming. I raced into the kitchen, to find my five-year-old heading toward his bedroom with an entire cheesecake and a fork!
Parenting can be utterly exhausting at times! We work day after day at trying every creative approach known to man to teach our children how to make wise decisions and walk the right paths in life. And sometimes, they just don’t seem to be making any progress.
But take heart, parents! If you’ve ever watched a master sculptor at work, you know that great works of art often look like mere lumps of clay for hours on end. It’s not until the very end of the process, as the artist applies the finishing touches, that a beautiful masterpiece emerges from the formless clay at last.
We’re all works of art in progress, being slowly shaped over the years by the knowing hands of the Master. One day He will create something beautiful in each of us. And if we invite the Lord to help us in our parenting efforts, He can do the same for them.
Keep on teaching, keep on patiently molding through love and discipline, and keep on trusting God. Those little clay hearts may be stubborn, but the Master has drawn breathtaking beauty from stone before.

Amen. Bring the children while they are young, to Him who loves them .
