Friday Fictioneers – “Just the Beginning”

The community formed a makeshift circle. Eerie silence hammered their hearts as they realized what they had done.   Before them lay the body of the man called Jakob, bleeding and broken.

 

Simon, the village elder, dropped a heavy stone and coughed. “For refusing to denounce the Christian heresy – the Council has spoken.”

 

As the adults bowed their heads, Anna glanced up. Before her widened eyes, she saw a radiant angel floating from the sky, and the earth stretching into a grand staircase to meet Him. Without glancing back, Jakob ran upwards, laughing merrily.

And in that dark moment, Anna smiled.
