Cherished Meal

Christmas Snacks

Cherished Meal

Whipped mashed potatoes

Piled high on my plate

Swimming in butter

To help celebrate

Fresh garden okra

Fried golden and crisp

Piping hot manicotti

Blowing warm steam in wisps

Hand-kneaded rolls

Baked honey brown

And vanilla cream soda

To wash it all down

But the night’s grand finale

For my siblings and I

Was the cool, creamy texture

Of cherry cream cheese pie

‘Twas not a birthday meal

Or feast of holiday cheer

But the everyday suppers

That I now hold most dear

For with each one we knew

Though through hardships we’d roam

That we were loved greatly

And we would always have home

Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.”

Philippians 1:3

  1. You had me at “mashed potatoes”. I, too had them swimming in butter. I’d make a bowl in the potatoes, fill it with butter, cover it with more potatoes, and then let it melt into a sea of golden deliciousness. Wonderful!
